Flying

At Villeneuve sur Lot, you’ll find the Aérodrome de Rogé, where you can learn to fly with an instructor. Your first flying lesson will last 40 minutes with briefing sessions before and afterwards to talk through your experience and discuss your future as a pilot. You can also learn a few flying tricks to impress your friends back home. At the Montayral Airfield you can learn to fly and take in the glorious scenery of The Lot Valley, Fumel, Bonaguil, Cahors and the Dordogne at the same time and at Toulouse Airport, you can take a tour of the aircraft manufacturing facility. Here you’ll be able to spend time at the centre of European aircraft manufacturing, enjoying the sights, sounds and first-hand impressions of aircraft from past to present, including the great Concorde and today’s astounding offering to aviation history, the Airbus A380. Remember to arrange your dangerous sports insurance in advance and get a doctor’s note certifying that you are fit and well enough to participate.

Gliding and Parachuting

Take a visit to the small aerodrome at Lalbenque, South of Cahors as this is the local base for these aeronautical activities. There’s a paragliding club in Douelle. There is something quite awe inspiring and thrilling about gliding quietly above the countryside with just a piece of canvas above your head. Parachute Jumping is available just outside Montaigu de Quercy. The parachute schools details are as follows;

Ecole de Parachutisme de Midi-Pyrénées.
82110 BOULOC. Tél: 05 63 95 39 46. Fax: 05 63 95 39 47.

Horse Riding

There is something of a passion in the Lot Valley for horse riding. There are no less than 21 equestrian centres in the area so you can, walk, trot, canter and even gallop your way around the countryside. Many of them offer horse riding lessons too so, even if you’ve never set foot in a saddle before, it won’t be long before you’re hacking along nicely with the rest of your group. Find your nearest equestrian centre amongst this list; Bazans, Clairac, Labretonie, Pinel-Hauterive, Lacepede, Prayssas, Dolmayrac, Sainte Livrade, La Criox-Blanche, Monbalen, Pujols, Villeneuve sur Lot,Pailloles,Frespech, Trentels, Sainte-Front Lemance and Lacapelle-Biron.

Golfing

Golf is another popular sport in the region and courses can found at Castelnaud de Gratecambe, close to Villeneuve-sur-Lot. The quality 9 and 18 hole courses are complimented by a good restaurant, swimming and tennis facilities so there’s something for everyone. Between Valence d'Agen and Auvillar, you’ll find Espalais, a lovely 18 hole course and there’s a 9 hole course at Agen which makes for a pleasant afternoon. At Roucous Sauveterre which is not far from Lauzerte, you’ll find another 9 holes together with a tennis court and swimming pool and a good club house restaurant and last but by no means least, is the 18 holes at Tombeboeuf which rather curiously translates to Beef Falls.

Cycling

The Lot Valley offers the cyclist a bit of everything, everything that is, except traffic. This beautifully unspoilt and quiet area of south west France offers up a history lesson at almost every turn. With its bustling markets, excellent wines and quite wonderful local food produce, you’ll never be stuck for refreshment either. Commanding views and quiet rural riding, this region has it all. The Lot River runs in a south-westerly direction joining with the Garonne. All along its banks, you’ll find spectacular scenery and delightful little towns offering a well earned break should you need it.

Go-Karting

Go karting is open all year round at the Circuit le Lissartel in Pers. From as young as 8 years old, your little ones can climb behind the wheel and test their driving skills. Mini-Karting is designed to give the little ones a taste of this great sport. For older boys and girls, those aged 10-14 years, there are the 200cc models. These are quick enough to get the heart racing but 15 year olds get to drive the 270cc models. The outdoor circuit is hilly, twisty and fast and some impressive and, not a little bit scary speeds can be reached. All safety gear is provided and all the vehicles are given a proper safety check prior to use. There is also Go-Karting close to our gites at Caussade in the Tarn et Garonne.

Airport Tours

At Toulouse airport you can go on a tour of the new air bus factory which is very interesting - a great day out for the men!
